Red Sea fish: what to order in Sharm and what to expect
An honest guide to fish in Sharm, with the prices and without the overpromising.

The Red Sea gives fish all year, but the range that actually reaches a kitchen is narrower than menus suggest. Here is what is worth ordering.
Grouper
The Red Sea fish. Firm white flesh that holds together on a grill. We do it as a grilled fillet (900 EGP) or as carpaccio (600 EGP). If you are ordering one fish, order this one.
Calamari and shrimp
Calamari in Sharm is almost always good and almost always the safe order: grilled 850 EGP, fried 800. Grilled shrimp is 950.
Lobster
The special-occasion dish: half a kilo grilled, 2000 EGP. Worth saying plainly that it is the most expensive thing on the menu and it isn't available every evening — it depends what came in.
Prices from the August 2026 list, excluding 14% VAT.
The practical advice
Fish in Sharm is judged by the kitchen, not by the sea. Ask what came in that day: a restaurant working with fresh fish is happy to answer, one working from the freezer changes the subject.
And if there are two of you who want to try several things, the mixed grill at 1200 EGP is the compromise that works best.
