Tiramisù and Italian desserts in Sharm: what to look for
How to tell a real tiramisù from a fake, and what to order if it isn't one.

Tiramisù is the most imitated Italian dessert in the world and Sharm is no exception. Some versions are excellent, others are whipped cream with cocoa on top. Telling them apart is easy.
Tiramisù, in three signals
First: you should see layers. If the plate is a uniform cream, the savoiardi are missing. Second: the cocoa goes on at the last moment — if it is dark and crusted, it has been sitting for hours. Third: it should stand up on its own. A tiramisù that spreads across the plate has too much cream and not enough mascarpone.
The alternatives
Panna cotta is the most honest thing to order when you don't know a kitchen: few ingredients, so it is either made properly or obviously not. Crème caramel is the safe choice if you want something light.

A note on fruit
Fruit in Egypt is one of the best things you can order at the end of a meal — mango, guava, watermelon, melon. If it has been a big dinner, finish with that instead of a dessert.
