Getting around Sharm: Nabq Bay to the Old Market

Sharm is longer than it looks on a map. The two ends — Nabq Bay in the north, the Old Market in the south — are opposite extremes of the city, and getting between them takes a bit of planning.

How long it takes

Nabq Bay to the Old Market is roughly a 30–40 minute taxi, depending on traffic and the checkpoints along the road. It is not a walk, and there is no convenient public transport aimed at visitors.

Taxis

Agree the fare before you get in, every time. Ask your hotel desk what the going rate is for the trip you want — it is the single most useful piece of information you can have, because it moves over time and a reference number protects you.

If you have a ride-hailing app that works in Egypt, it is often simpler because the price is fixed up front.

The practical tip

Settle the return fare before you get out, or arrange for the driver to wait. Finding a taxi late at night at the market is possible but not always quick.
