Can you drink wine and beer in Sharm El Sheikh?

The short answer is yes. The longer answer is about where, how much, and what you won't find.

Si può bere vino e birra a Sharm el Sheikh?

It is one of the first things visitors ask before travelling, and the short answer is yes — you can drink in Sharm. It is worth knowing how it works, though, because it does not work the way it does at home.

Where you can drink

Egypt is a Muslim country and alcohol is not everywhere. In the tourist areas — resorts, licensed restaurants, bars — it is easy to find. Outside those areas, much less so. It isn't a rule aimed at visitors; the product simply isn't stocked.

What you'll find

Local beer and a couple of imports, plus Egyptian wines, which are better than their reputation. We carry three beers and three wines, by the glass and by the bottle.

  • Local beer (Sakara, Stella), 200 EGP
  • Heineken, 150 EGP
  • Wine by the glass, from 150 EGP
  • Wine by the bottle, from 650 EGP

Prices from the August 2026 list, excluding 14% VAT.

What you won't find

An Italian wine list. Imported wine carries duties in Egypt that put it out of reach, so nearly every restaurant works with Egyptian labels. Arrive expecting a Chianti and you will be disappointed; arrive curious and the Grand Marquis and Cape Bay do the job.

And during Ramadan?

During Ramadan alcohol service can be reduced or suspended in some places. In Sharm's tourist areas it generally continues, but if your trip falls in that month it is worth asking ahead.
